President's report
November 2011
Apologies for taking so long to table a formal report. Much has been happening off-field though, and with some great on-field performances there is much to be proud about across the Bangor Barden Ridge Comets.
As we reach the half-way mark of the season with the conclusion of Round 5, it is interesting to note what has already been achieved at both a Club and individual level.
Of note re our on-field results:
- Round 5 saw every one of our sides win their respective games. For those of us with long memories at the Club, this is the first time ever we can recall this happening. A fantastic way to turn the corner into the home stretch for the season.
- We currently sit 8th on the Club Championship, the best we have been placed in many, many seasons. We sit above a side with far more eligible teams than us, and are breathing down the neck of the 3 sides above us.
- Individually, we have already seen:
(a) 4 boys who have reached their tons – Matthew Hunt, Conor Kelly, Jackson Nicholls (all in the 16Cs) and Craig Netto (12Bs) – outstanding achievements
(b) 8 boys who have reached their 50s in our TRAD teams – Lachlan Andrews (16C), Nicholas Blumor (14B), Tom Derrick (14B), Jack Bourke (14E), Brayden Holdstock (14E), Aidan O’Hara (14E), Thomas Church (12B) and Joshua Leghissa (10A)
(c) 4 boys who have reached compulsory retirement in our MOD sides – Bailey Franklin, James Horn, Jayden McDonald and Riley Mellersh (all from our 12Es)
(d) and in our bowling, understanding that 10 wickets in a season is a great year, we have 21 boys who have taken 5 or more wickets already this season!
Congratulations to all of our players, coaches and managers who have made this season one of our most successful as at Rd 5 to date. I hope this success forms the basis of much enjoyment for everyone, families included, and that your cricket is fun and something you look forward to each week.
Off the field, we have also achieved great success:
- We have seen new sponsors join us to much gratitude and welcome! Please have a look at our Sponsors Page on our Club web site and support our sponsors as much as possible. Their contributions allow us to provide the cricket experience we aim for, so giving something back is not too big of an ask!!
- Our Trivia Nite just held was a great success and thank you to all the teams and individuals who came along for a great night out. If you missed out, put this in your diary for next year!! Thanks to Cynthia Howse (and Elliot I suppose) for organising and running the night, thanks to our sponsors for the night and our teams for adding great prizes to the raffle table. The night raised circa $2,200 for the Club which is outstanding.
- Our Bunnings BBQ fundraiser closely followed and I appreciate each team who provided helpers across the day. I know it is a big ask to take time out of your Sundays, but without your help we would not be able to hold this fundraiser. The day cleared $1178 for the Club so it is well worth the effort.
- All CNSW raffle tickets should by now be returned and thank you also for your support of this. Due to the kindness of My Keg on Legs, all proceeds from this raffle go straight into the Club. We look like we raised approx $2,523 for the Club.
- Purchases of Club supporters’ gear were healthy and I hope everyone looks as good as our players on the sidelines. I know I keep hearing positive comments from other clubs as to how our new gear looks, and how great it is that our supporters are getting into the spirit. It does get noticed and it does attract people to what they see as a vibrant and supportive culture.
- Our Team League is progressing well, with some teams shooting out to a very strong lead. I encourage everyone to join in – submit match reports, Wall of Shame entries and general photos – it all adds to our web site and encourages some communication across our teams (which I know is difficult in a cricket club where we all play at different grounds).
All of these initiatives allow us to look at ways of improving what we offer our members, both on and off the field. As we move into the holiday period, I pass on a general thanks to everyone involved in our club. From those taking on large formal roles, to our players, to our coaches and managers, to our supporters, to our ‘caterers’ on game day and to everyone who provides the weekly bus service to games – all of you make our Club.
If I don’t get the chance to communicate beforehand, I wish each and every one of you a Merry Xmas and a very Happy New Year. Be safe over the holiday period.
